Africa is one of the most intriguing and fascinating continents on Earth, the third biggest after Asia and America. One single trip is not enough to get to know it completely, since it hosts a huge diversity of climates, ethnic groups, cultures and landscapes including deserts, savannas and rainforests.

The highest peaks in Africa are located in the area around the Rift Valley. Here it is possible to admire the high mountains of Ruwenzori Chain, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya,  both extinct volcanoes with an ice cap. The Northern area of the continent hosts the largest desert in the world, the Sahara desert. Here the climate is Mediterranean with warm and dry summers and mild and humid winters.

Africa is famous for its diverse unique fauna, including several species of felines, monkeys, herbivorous animals and big herds of buffaloes, gnus, zebras, gazelles and many others. This makes it the perfect destination for a safari, in fact many travellers come here to view the Big 5 from up close in the great national parks, such as Kruger Park in South Africa, Chobe in Botswana, Arusha and Serengeti in Tanzania, just to name a few. Uganda and Rwanda are famous for trekking with mountain gorillas and chimps, endangered species that are close to the human kind.

The African population is made up of different ethnic groups, anyway two main groups can be distinguished, dividing the continent into White Africa, in the South, and Black Africa in the Sub-Saharan area. The spoken languages, most of them not official, are more than two thousand and vary from State to State, although the official languages are European due to past colonization. A trip to discover local populations, visiting villages, learning about customs and traditions of the African tribes, is an experience which leaves an indelible mark.
