Trivandrum

The port city of Trivandrum has been a major trade city since the ancient times. Basically speaking it is a southwestern costal city located at the extreme end of the state of Kerala. The city derives its name from the lord Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswami which literally means the town of Anantha. It is in the eighteenth century that the city rose to its height as the capital of the Travancore kingdom. Later after the independence of India, it became the capital of the state of Kerla.

The city being near to the sea maintains an ambient temperature throughout the year, though the summers can get a bit hot at times. The major tourist attractions in and around the city includes the prehistoric temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy. The other major attractions include the Napier museum, zoo, Sri Chitra art gallery, Science and technology museum, Chacha Nehru children’s museum and observatory hill.

The city of Trivandrum is capital of the God’s own country. One of the must visit place here includes, the Kovalam beach. It is located just 16 kms from the city and provides the best beach and resort options to those wishing to avail one. The Padmanabhaswamy temple is another great attraction. It is a beautiful mixture of Kerla and Dravidian architecture bended in one. The Kuthiramalika palace museum and the Napier museum are another great tourist attraction due to the rich history and artifacts that they have on display. The Chitra art gallery displays some very rare paintings by the famous Raja Ravi Varma and other painters of note.
