Iran - Useful information for your trip

Iran is a country in the Asian continent, it also includes the region with the historical name of Persia.

The vastness of Iran’s territory is proportional to the history and cultural heritage of this extraordinary country which will surprise even the most experienced tourists.

Overlooking the Persian Gulf as well as the Caspian See, Iran has an arid weather even if there are some zones where the climate is mild or even rainy, such as the forest in the north of country.

The two deserts of the country, Dasht-i-Lut (rocky desert) e il Dasht-e Kavir (salt desert) make up for the biggest part of central Iran. Unlike to what people think Iran is mainly mountainous with two mountain chains, the Ebruz and the Mounts Zagros, which are both higher than 4500m at their highest peaks.

As the geography, also the climate is very different in the different regions of Iran. There is a big thermal excursion allover the country with temperatures ranging from +35°C to -10°C

The ancient Persia will surprise you for the big variety in the in the scenerios as well as for the big differences among the regions. If Teheran is more “western” and relaxed regarding the religious matters (as the correct use of the veil for women), if you travel in the inner parts of the country, and especially along the desert’s borders, you’ll find a more conservative attitude. Anyway you shall not be worried of how you are going to be welcomed as a tourist. Iranian people are very friendly and they will make you feel as true guests.

Spending time with the people of Iran will make you also know the tradition of “Taarof”, unwritten rules that are followed by the locals to pamper the guests and the travellers. Offerings of food, presents and hospitality will be very common, a strange ritual for us, western people with a swift attitude but which will make us even more aware of how “far” is Persia despite a modest geographical distance.

Iran also provides amazing places where to relax and enjoy the best of the natural environment, such as the national parks or the wonderful beaches lapped by the Caspian Sea or the waters of the Persian Gulf or Gulf of Oman.
