This Rwanda safari gives you an opportunity to try two exceptional wildlife experiences: chimpanzee trekking and gorilla trekking. A beautiful hike through the forest will lead you to these fascinating creatures where you can see them up close and personal. The chimp trekking differs a bit from gorilla trekking as the chimps are running around, making the sightings a bit more sporadic, and rushed but worthwhile nonetheless. A canopy walk in Nyungwe forest is a good way to experience the forest from up.

    Arrival and Airport Pick up
    Day 1

    Today you will arrive in the beautiful land of “a thousand hills.”  A guide/ representative from the staff will be at the airport to pick you. Depending on your time of arrival, you will be taken on a city tour of the capital of Rwanda - Kigali.

    Transfer to the home of chimps
    Day 2

    In the morning after breakfast, we depart for Nyungwe forest having lunch en-route in Butare. We will also walk around Butare National Museum and the genocide memorial in Nyanza. We arrive in Nyungwe forest later in the evening.

    Chimp tracking & Canopy Walk
    Day 3

    Early in the morning after breakfast, we leave for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. This forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys with 300 bird species. After the experience of chimpanzee trekking we will do a canopy walk immediately or take it in the afternoon.

    From Chimpanzees to Gorillas
    Day 4

    After an early breakfast, we leave for Volcanoes national park as we enjoy the views of Lake Kivu with its islands on our way, arriving at the hotel in the evening.

    Gorillas in the mist
    Day 5

    Today is the day you will meet the mountain gorillas in their habitant deep in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. Embark on the trek through the territory of these enormous animals. This is such an unforgettable experience on many peoples bucket list. The trek can last from an hour to seven hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience.

    Day 6

    Today is the end of your safari. After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to Kigali to return to your hotel or take your flight.
