Namibia - Travel tips
Welcome to Namibia, a land of arid deserts, canyons and great African wildlife. In terms of vast open spaces, no other country in Africa and maybe in the entire world can rival this country. Situated in Southern Africa facing the Atlantic Ocean, Namibia is a unique land to be discovered.
It's a land of deserts, Kalahari and Namib, with their huge barren expanses of sand, leaving every traveller with indelible memories. The Namib desert stretches from north to south and is divided in two parts, one north and the other south of the town of Swakopmund. Walk up the sandy dunes of Sossusvlei and admire the golden expanses around you, presumably originated 80 milion years ago. Let yourself be charmed by the barren landscape of the Dead Vlei, punctuated by the typical dry acacia trees, contributing to making this place even more ghostly. The Dead Vlei becomes magical at night, under a blanket of stars.
Moving north, your trip in Namibia will take you into Damaraland, a desert land which meets the Atlantic Ocean on the coast. This is the home of the desert elephants and the endangered black rhino. Other places that will leave you breathless are the Skeleton Coast and Walvis Bay, inhabited by hundreds of pink flamingoes, Kaokoland, majestic Fish River Canyon, Sesriem Canyon and Etosha National Park.
If you love safaris and wish to see the African giants from up close, Etosha National Park definitely deserves a stop. A real wildlife sanctuary, Etosha, stretching over 22,000 sqkm, is one of the largest protected areas in the world. If on the other hand it's the human aspect which fascinates you the most, the cities of Namibia, still bearing witness of the ancient German rule, won't disappoint you.
The small capital Windhoek is the perfect combination between German and native cultures: the European-style architectures, the typically German cusine and the Western dress code, perfrectly combine with the sounds, the handmade products and the rythms of the African continent. The seaside town of Swakopmund, that will look to you almost like a Bavarian village because of its houses, is spectacularly located between sea and desert. It will surprise you with its relaxing atmosphere.
If you dream to see the most authentic Namibia, let our local travel experts guide you and discover this untame country. Your tailormade tour and safari holiday will be sensational.
