On your safari vacation you will experience the finest game and birdwatching by boat, on foot and in open safari vehicles. You will be stunned by the sight of the great southern rivers – the Okavango, Chobe and the Zambezi. You will get to see world-famous Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World and the remnants of ancient kingdoms, Great Zimbabwe.
Highlights of your Southern Africa tour:
Transfer from Maun International Airport to the lodge on the banks of the Thamalakane River. Late afternoon sunset cruise looking for the abundant bird life and the occasional hippo and crocodile. Overnight at the lodge. [D]
View the Okavango Delta from an eagle’s perspective by going on a breathtaking one hour private charter flight, (optional, for own account). Alternatively explore Maun with an early morning walk. After breakfast at the lodge, depart Maun and travel northwesterly along the panhandle of the Okavango Delta, an area famous for prolific wildlife, birds and fish. Spend the next 2 nights at a lodge alongside the Okavango River. [BD]
Optional (for your own account) mokoro day trip. Lunch and return transfers are included. (You will not be back in time for the sundowner cruise.) The rest of the group will enjoy a day at leisure and a late afternoon sundowner cruise on the Okavango River. Overnight at lodge. [BD]
Cross the border post between Botswana and Namibia and enter the Mahango National Park to enjoy your first Namibian game drive. Rare species found here include bushbuck, reedbuck, lechwe, tsessebe, oribi and sitatunga. Continue to Popa Falls, where we take a short walk and then enter the Caprivi Strip. Overnight on the banks of the Kwando River. [BD]
Enjoy an early morning game drive. Then you will visit a traditional village, learning about local fishing and hunting techniques. The local medicine man will also show you dances to cure illnesses. Optional early morning or sunset boat trip on the Kwando River (for your own account). Overnight on the banks of the Kwando River. [BD].
Travel back to Botswana and enjoy a game drive in the Chobe National Park and sunset cruise on the Chobe River. You will probably meet the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. Spend the next 2 nights at the lodge. [BD]
Travel to Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls. Guided tour of the Falls and rainforest. Activities available (optional and for own account) include Flight of the Angels, elephant back safari, lion walk or a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi River. Spend 2 nights at a lodge in the Victoria Falls. [BD]
Transfer to Hwange National Park, home to a wide variety of game such as buffalo, zebra, giraffe, all the big cats, hyena, wild dog, rhino and elephants. Enjoy open vehicle game drive or visit Painted Dog Sanctuary. Overnight at the lodge. [FB]
Proceed to Masvingo, and Lake Kyle National Park, stopping en route at Bulawayo for lunch (own account). Overnight at lodge. [BD]
Visit the ruined city of Great Zimbabwe, dating back to the Late Iron Age. Afternoon scenic drive to Lake Kyle and its dam wall. Overnight at lodge. [BD]
After crossing the border between Zimbabwe and South-Africa, we continue to the Morning Sun Nature Reserve near Makhado for overnight. [BD]
Depart for Johannesburg arriving at OR Tambo International Airport around lunch time. [B]
