Rwanda - Useful information for your trip

Rwanda is a country located in Central Africa without any access to the sea. Its territory is mainly mountainous and hilly, this is why, it is often called "Country of thousand hills". The most important mountain range is Virunga chain situated to the North-Western part of the country; it also hosts many active volcanoes.

Being set just below the Equator, the weather in Rwanda is pleasantly warm during the whole year and shows two seasons: a dry one, from June to August, and a rainy season, which spans from March to May and from September to November. Although the temperatures are quite high, the sun never shines too often, due to the white clouds that often cover the sky.

Rwanda boasts two important national parks, where its natural wonders are safeguarded and protected. The landscapes are characterized by the presence of savannah, swamps and rainforest with eucalyptus, acacias and palms. Akagera National Park boasts the presence of rare wildlife, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, cheetahs, antelopes, but also the endangered mountain gorillas. Volcanoes National Park encloses some of the most picturesque sceneries of the whole continent. Finally, although Rwanda is not lapped by any sea, it offers wonderful beaches, thanks to Kivu Lake that kisses its lands.

Rwanda also offers scenic towns and villages, such as the capital city, Kigali, which is built on the top of a hill. From here, it is possible to enjoy breath-taking views of the surrounding valleys and hills. Butare, is the cultural centre of the country and hosts the renowned National Museum.
