Canada - Useful information for your trip

Canada is a country in North America. It is the second-largest country of the world, with the longest land border with the USA. Canada is located at the North of the continent and is surrounded by the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans and northward by the Arctic Ocean.

The climate and geography of the regions are very varied due to its extension. Winters can be very cold in many parts of the country where daily average temperatures are near −15°C  but can go down to −40 °C. In non-coastal regions, snow can cover the ground for almost six months of the year, while in parts of the North snow can persist year-round. In Canada there are a lot of large lakes which make Canada the first country in the world for fresh water.

In addition, due to different climates and geographical zones, it is possible to find a very large biodiversity of the flora and fauna, changing from region to region. Indeed, the Arctic area is characterized by tundra, while the Appalachian Mountains and the Coast Mountains are covered by coniferous forests.

In the past Canada was a French and English colony, with immigrants from Europe who influenced the language and culture of the aborigines. This is why even today, the official languages are English and French.

Canada's economy is highly developed, it is mainly based on mining processing, thanks to the large amount of underground metals, oil field, natural gas, coal and uranium. Other important sectors are agriculture, breeding, forestal resources and the mechanical industries.
