Mexico tour: the natural and archaeological wonders of Chiapas and Yucatan

Arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez airport, meeting with the guide and departure for a boat trip to the impressive Sumidero Canyon and transfer to San Cristobal de las Casas by climbing a mountain road over 2,000 meters. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Visit the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, situated a few kilometers from San Cristobal. A visit of the city and local market is also scheduled: here you will admire the handicraft work of local natives, as well as famous churches, such as the Baroque Santo Domingo church. Lunch in a local restaurant and dinner at the hotel.

On this day we will descend from the mountains of Chiapas through green valleys. Scheduled stop to Agua Azul waterfalls. Arrival in Palenque, lodging at the hotel.

Morning dedicated to the visit of the Archaeological Zone of Yaxchilán hidden deep in the jungle of Guatemala and Mexico divided by the Usumacinta River. The ancient name of this city was probably Pa 'Chan. Yaxchilan means "green stones" in Maya. Visit Bonampak, famous for its wonderful murals. Accommodation in Palenque.

In the morning visit the archaeological area of Palenque, still partly hidden by the tropical jungle and full of charm and unique pyramids. Lunch in a local restaurant and departure to Campeche. Upon arrival short tour of the old town, still enclosed and fortified with towers and walls, still retaining a strong colonial atmosphere. Check in to the hotel.

The first stop is due at Uxmal archaeological area, one of the most important testimonies of the Mayan civilization. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon arrive in Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan, the "white city", so called because of its colonial buildings.

Stop over at the "zocalo" to see the Cathedral, the Government building, the City Hall and Montejo's House. Overnight in a hotel.

Departing in direction to the sea, we will make a stop halfway to visit Chichen Itza, perhaps the best known of the Mayan archaeological zones, with the famous Pyramid Kukulkán. In the afternoon we will arrive at the beautiful port of Rio Lagartos, lodging in hotel.

Excursion by boat in the Rio Lagartos Biosphere, after admiring the Pelicans Albatros and pink flamingos, as well as encounter with crocodiles; Spa bath in the salt mud, and to finish lunch of fresh fish and shrimp on a beach where you can get only motorboat. Continuing through Ek Balam, one of the lesser known and most beautiful areas of the north of the Yucatan peninsula. Finally we arrive in Playa del Carmen. End of tour.
