Italy - Useful information for your trip

Italy attracts many and many tourists all year round thanks to its natural beauties and landscape, its rich cultural heritage, with its ancient architecture, dating back to the Roman Empire, but also thanks to its  innovative modern architecture and its renowned culinary tradition.

Italy, in fact, is the country with the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites. In addition, it also has many protected areas, including national and regional parks, natural reserves and marine protected areas. There are about 871 protected natural areas.

As for nature Italy shows different facets. In fact, it has magnificent mountains, belonging to the mountain ranges of the Alps and the Apennines, where both winter and summer tourism is highly developed. On the other hand it also has fantastic seaside resorts, boasting beautiful beaches lapped by crystal clear sea. The Aeolian Islands, the Aegadian Islands, Sicily and Sardinia are all unmissable destinations for a sailing cruise.

Throughout its history Italy has managed to earn a place of prime importance in the scenario of world culture. In fact, Italy shows many examples of national monuments, from the Greek temples, the medieval villages to the Roman baths.

As for architecture, Italy boasts works conceived during many different historic periods, the Colosseum, belonging to the Roman architecture, Milan Cathedral during the Gothic period, the Duomo of Florence during the Renaissance, the Palace of Italian Civilization during rationalism.

Italy is also renowned all over the globe for painting and sculpture, since many important artists were Italian, for instance Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael. Finally, Italy has also different historical and folklore traditions such as the Palio di Siena and the Carnival of Venice, known worldwide.
