In the afternoon visit of Cochin, also known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea" because of its large bay and the well protected harbor that has guaranteed to it an important role in the coastal trade.
Here you can find Dutch palaces well-aligned with the Kerala culture, Portoguese and British architecture examples, synagogues, and traces of the passage of the Chinese population. Emblematic evidence of this seamless integration of different cultures are the trading products and legends of visitors from far away lands.
In Cochin you can find Chinese fishing nets that have been introduced by the merchants at the court of the Chinese emperor Kubilai Khan.
The Fort Kochi beach with its promenade along the beach, is very fascinating at sunset, being characterized by Chinese nets and sailboats as a background. European-style bungalows dotted around the shoreline.

That of St. Francis, is the oldest church built by Europeans in India. Vasco de Gama, the Portuguese trader who reached India from Europe by sea, fell ill, died in Cochin and was buried in this church. Later, his remains were brought to Portugal, but the point where he was buried has remained a place of worship and a good omen for the Christians.
The Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, then modified by the Dutch and given as a gift to the Raja of Cochin: the coronation of several Raja of Kochi occurred within this majestic palace that still retains an excellent collection of mural paintings of epic scenes from Hindu Mahabharata and Ramayana.
