Guatemala - Useful information for your trip

Guatemala is perhaps the most characteristic country in which to visit the Mayan ruins. It is the least affected by tourism and where natural beauty and archaeological sites are still authentic. Its geography ranges from the plains of the north, to the highlands and to the most mountainous areas that include large lakes and volcanoes, the highest among these is the Tajumulco of 4200 m above sea level.

The north hosts the main Maya's settlements such as Tikal archaeological site, undoubtedly one of the most impressive of Central America. The huge pyramids built by the Maya stand out among the over 3000 temples forming this archaeological complex of over 16 square kilometres.

Around the settlements the lowland forest of Peten extends, becoming mountainous in the south, with highlands, especially to the east. On these highlands some beautiful lakes formed, many with a volcanic origin. The most famous is Lake Atitlan, in which there are also some islands.

There are considerable variations in the climate between different areas of Guatemala, which are all affected by the rainy season from the middle of May to the middle November.

The main destinations for your tailormade holiday and vacation include the capital, Guatemala City and the old city of Antigua, destroyed by an earthquake in 1773. It is still extremely charming. You cannot miss the excursions to discover the Mayan ruins, and the many interesting features offered by the local flora and fauna.
