Pinar del Río
Pinar del Río is the westernmost and the wildest province of Cuba.
Its landscape is characterized by the mogotes, limestone hills that emerge from the surrounding plain. They are one of the topographic feature of the Viñales Valley, a beautiful site protected by the UNESCO. The south of the province is almost entire covered by mangrove swamp, while the west side boasts a lush vegetation. Here you can find Las Terrazas, an amazing natural park with suggestive hiking trails that lead to wonderful waterfalls, mineral springs and to the typical coffee plants.
Sometimes it appears that the city has quitted the comfort of the modern life, it is testify by the absence of the electric light in some houses.
The most developed business in the area are tourism, that characterized the local economy, and the tobacco-growing. Some of the best leaves for the cuban cigar come from Pinar del Río.
Pinar del Río also owns beautiful caribbean beaches lapped by an enchanting crystal clear water, a paradise for the diving's lovers.
