Bayamo

Bayamo is the capital city of the Granma Province located on the island of Cuba. Bayamo was the second city founded by the spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar in 1513.

Unfortunately, its heritage has been destroyed due to a fire during the 19th century. The inhabitants of Bayamo lighted the fire to protect the city against the spanish control.

Nowadays the heart of the city is Parque Céspedes, also called Parque Central or Plaza de la Revolución. In the centre of the square is set a bronze statue dedicated to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and a monument devoted to Perucho Figueredo, the composer of the cuban national anthem. The square is surrounded by typical small houses painted with intense pastel colours.

Although Bayamo is not an important tourist hub, it is a nice city where spend some hours discovering the real cuban life.
