Are you looking for an unusual vacation, adventure and meeting with local populations? This tour in Cambodia, Asia, is maybe the trip and vacation for you! This is in fact an exclusive itinerary that can be tailored to you needs, along an original track that will make you discover the heart of Cambodia on a bike.
On a north-south route over 600 km long, from Angkor city to the beaches of the south, you will visit enchanting archaeological sites and villages where you'll meet the Cambodian people, sometimes even sleeping in their homes. It will be a personal challenge on two wheels, across the bucolic ricefields of Kampot province and much else.
Here are the highlights of this bike tour:
Arrive in Siem Reap and check in to the hotel.
This morning you'll mount your bikes to start your adventure on two wheels, heading to Phnom Bok hill. You'll then reach Banteay Srei temple, known as the citadel of women, built in the 10th century. You will cross remote villages along a dirt road.
The challenge begins with the climb to Phnom Kulen, on dirt pebble tracks (+350). You'll take the only road that leads to the top of this sacred mountain across the jungle. Stop over at the waterfall for a swim. After the break you'll continue to the top, where you'll spend the night in a local home. (Track and dirt road/ 30 km / Kulen challenge +40 km; +350 m).
Day in Phnom Kulen, time to enjoy the waterfalls and the natural landscape. Overnight in a local home.
Today you'll visit the majestic archaeological site of Angkor, with its marvellous temples that have made it the symbol of Cambodia. Today it is the largest religious monument in the world and is protected by Unesco. Originally designed as a Hindu temple, it was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. Overnight in a hotel.
Today you'll ride through the lush cardamom forest, getting an insight on its wildlife. Overnight in a guesthouse.
Your bike tour continues discovering the cardamom forest, crossing the picturesque village of Chi Phat and meeting the local population. Overnight in a guesthouse.
The journey into the cardamom forest ends today. You will join the group truck to head towards Kampong Chhnang and Kirirom National Park. You will arrive at foot of Kirirom mountain. Again you will mount your bike to proceed on your adventure, crossing small paths at the foot of the mountain, discovering several villages and crossing ricefields. After this short ride you will start the climb.
The landscapes will multiply: coniferous forests, tropical vegetation and rivers. Following a dirt track you'll reach the plateau situated at 400 meters above sea level. The view overlooks the ricefields, allowing you to really enjoy this park in all its beauty and to notice the little bamboo huts of the inhabitants. Pic-nic with the opportunity to bathe in the river.
Time for some rest on a hammock and then you'll be back on the tracks through the forest. You'll be descending gradually and finally find the verdant ricefields of the Cambodian countryside. Overnight in a hotel with swimming pool. (500m difference in altitude - 40 km by bicycle).
Today will be spent exploring Kirirom National Park on a bike.
In the morning you will get on your bike to continue on your route across the countryside. You'll cross the bridge on Kampot river. Ricefields and fruit plantations will be part of the landscape. You'll arrive in Kampot and then explore the neighbourhoods of the old colonial city before checking into your riverside bungalow.
In the late afternoon you can bathe in the river. To top off the day, your guide will offer you a well-deserved drink. Overnight in a bungalow (50 km).
