The name Rila is presumably of Thracian origin and it is thought to mean " well- watered mountains", because on Rila glacial lakes abound (around 200) together with hot springs. Here you'll find marvellous Borovets tourist complex, established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting territory for the Bulgarian king. The area then grew over the years and is nowadays a ski-lovers resort. Borovets is situated on the foothiill of Musala peak, at 1350 m above sea level, among woods and ancient pines, the complex is easily accessible from the road, 73 km from Sofia and 126 km from Plovdiv and the nearest town of Samokov is only 10 km away. Borovets is not just a famous winter resort, but also a summer tourist attraction due to the many options for horseriding and trekking.
With this travel program we want to offer you the unique chance for a horseriding holiday in the breath-takingly beautiful Rila Mountains.
Arrive in Sofia. Meet a local representative and transfer to Borovets (1 hour ca.). Check in to the reserved hotel. This will be the base for the next 3 nights and the departing point for the next days.
After breakfast you'll depart towards the area of Varniko and Zona. Continue to Varovita Cheshma where you'll stop for lunch. Then you'll continue on a horseback to Pashanitsa, Malka Lukovitsa and in the afternoon you'll get back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Horseriding: 7 hours.
After breakfast you'll go on a horseriding trip in the area of Black Rock and Gvardeiska Polyana. Stop for lunch at Chakur hut. The tour continues to Sitniakovo, return to Borovets at the hotel for the night. Horseriding: 7 hours.
After breakfast depart to Malka Lukovitsha and Golyam Giol, where yoi'll stop for lunch, You'll continue horseriding to Borovets, passing Shumnatitsa chalet. Return to the hotel in Borovets,
At the end of the horseriding tour transfer to Sofia for your flight. Horseriding: 5 hours.
Useful information:
Horses and saddles: the saddle is Western, but English saddles are also available on request. Most of the horses belong to the local East -Bulgarian breed with an average height of 1.50 cm, they are smart and strong, and are therefore extremely suitable for the mountainous region of the Rila Mountains.
