Aruba - Useful information for your trip

Aruba is an island of the Caribbean Sea, north of Venezuela, with Oranjestad as main city. The island features few mountains and dry weather facilitating tourism development. Moreover, Aruba is a constituent country of the Netherlands in Central America.

The territory is mainly flat, with few rivers and many marvellous white beaches, especially in the north and south of the island. Inland lie the Rolling Hills, whose two highest peaks are Hooiberg and Jamanota - the latter is the highest point on the island. The climate is marine, with few seasonal variations and temperatures around 28 degrees almost all the time. Trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean are constant, while precipitations are scarce and slightly heavier in autumn.

The flora includes cactus, aloe and divi divi, while the fauna includes iguana, blue lizard and several bird species, such as brown pelicans and cormorants.

As for economy, Aruba boasts excellent standards of living, with low poverty and unemployment rates. The main activity is tourism, but also petroleum refining plays a relevant role. Agricultural and manufacturing are marginal.

The main attractions of the island are its dream beaches and the countless activities that can be practised here, from surf to kitesurf, from snorkelling to beach tennis.
