Albania - Useful information for your trip

Albania is a European country located in the Balkan Peninsula. Because of its geographical location and proximity to the Adriatic Sea, Ionian Sea and Balkan mountains, it boasts different climate regions. The plateaus are typically subject to a Mediterranean climate, while the mountainous regions boast a continental climate.

It is believed that Albania was the cradle of the Illyrian people, that promoted several trade exchanges with the Greek poleis. Afterwards, the Roman Empire and the Ottoman Empire took over the country, which was invaded by the Turks. Only on 28 November 1912 did Albania declare its idependence from the Ottoman-Turkish Empire.

Nowadays Albania is a Unitary parliamentary constitutional republic and its capital city is Tirana, main financial hub of the country. Under a social-economical point of view, Albania is considered an underdeveloped country, it aims to reach a free-market capitalism. The main resources come from the primary sector, namely from agriculture and breeding.

Over the last few years, tourism has seen great development. Indeed, Albania has considerable potential, thanks to the unique beauty of its landscapes and remains of the ancient populations that lived here.

An important feature of Albania national culture is characterized by traditional music. This, unfortunately, has never had the chance to become popular in other parts of Europe due to the past isolation of this country.
