A wine tour of excellence between vineyards and countryside to discover Monferrato and its ancient villages in Piedmont, Italy.
Arrival in Nizza Monferrato (AT) is scheduled for early afternoon. The municipality is one of the most populous of the Asti area. The municipal territory and the neighboring areas have been recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 and offer some typical food and wine including the hunchback cardo and the "Nizza DOCG", a very prestigious Barbera sub-area of Barbera d'Asti DOCG.
After checking in at the hotel, you can visit the historic city center through Via Carlo Alberto, commonly called "Via Maestra", characterized by arcades and the central square where the town hall with the bell tower, symbol of the city, is located.
There are also ancient churches including Sar Siro and Sant'Ippolito dating back to the beginning of the fourteenth century and the most recent church of San Giovanni Lanero built in the '700 considered the cathedral of Nizza Monferrato, whose facade recalls the architecture of a Greek-Roman temple. At the end of the day there will be a dinner in the area with a typical menu.
The second day is dedicated to the wine culture of the area, in the morning there will be a visit to a famous winery in Nizza Monferrato, a company operating since the beginning of the 20th century. During the tour of this winery it will be possible to visit both the heart of the production and processing, and have the opportunity to visit the museum of peasants that includes a collection of tools used in the agricultural world in times past, which represent the rough bond between the farmer and the land he cultivates, symbol of these places.
At the end of the visit a tasting is scheduled. Free lunch in the area. In the afternoon transfer to Canelli, an important wine-growing center whose historic cellars, renamed "Underground Cathedrals", have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Some of these particular wineries reach the depth of 32 m in the subsoil, dug in the "marna", others saw the birth of the first Italian sparkling wine in 1865.
It will therefore be possible to visit one of these unique underground cellars, to discover the tradition of Moscato production, symbol of these places. At the end of the visit it will be possible to make a tasting inside the cellar.
At the end of the visit we recommend a walk up the "Sternia", a cobblestone road that goes uphill the old town center of Canelli, coming up to the gates of the castle of Gancia. In the late afternoon (depending on the season), we offer a suggestive tasting in Calosso, a municipality that stands on the hills between Langhe and Monferrato.
Once at the farm, the visit to the two cellars will start: the historical one of the great-grandparents and the modern one. Following this, there will be a tasting of organic wines accompanied by typical local products, including cheeses and cold cuts. During the tasting, guests can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding hills and the Monviso in the distance, waiting for the sunset, all this from a unique location surrounded by vineyards.
The last day of the package includes check out in the morning, transfer to Mombaruzzo at a renowned distillery in this area, located in a scenic landscape that you can visit in all its entirety. The whole path is designed to give the opportunity to participate in everything related to distillation. At the end of the visit there will be a tasting in the dedicated rooms.
