Georgia - Useful information for your trip

Georgia is a country that faces the Black Sea. Although it belongs to the Asian continent, it is considered a European country under a cultural and historical point of view.

Its territory is mainly characterized by mountains, such as the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range with its high Mount Kazbek. In spite of its small extension of the country, the country is characterized by different climate conditions. The westernmost part boasts a humid sub-tropical climate, with regular precipitations during the whole year, while the easternmost part hosts a very humid continental climate.

Its landscapes are very diversified, Georgia has lush forests of chestnuts, evergreen trees and broad-leaved trees, rainforests but also fascinating perennial glaciers. Moreover, it is also the home of a huge variety of animals, such as the Persian leopard, brown bears, wolves and lynxes. In order to preserve and safeguard its natural beauties, that were subject to human abuses, many national parks and protected areas have been established.

Georgia is considered one of the most interesting nations in the world. In fact, it is the meeting point of the mysterious Orient and the elegant Occident, but it is also rich in natural beauties, local traditions and a huge cultural heritage.

One of the most evocative areas in Georgia is surely the mountainous region of Svaneti. Indeed, due to the isolation from the other parts of the country, it seems like time has been stopped here, preserving ancient traditions. Svaneti is characterized by mountainous villages, grazing fields and defensive towers, with several hiking trails to discover the most hidden secrets of these villages. Only remember that some areas are homes to wild animals, such as wolves and bears. Thanks to its unique beauty and its medieval towers, this town has been declared World Heritage Site by Unesco.

Another interesting destination in Georgia is the capital city: Tbilisi. Its pictoresque old town offers many amazing alleys with holy buildings. Some of the most interesting are the Armenian Cathedral of Saint George, the Orbeliani Baths, a complex of sulphurous thermal baths and the Narikala Fortress, one the the symbols of the city.
