Oaxaca

Oaxaca, capital of the Mexican state, is located at an altitude of about 1550 meters. Close to the town there is the important archaeological site of Monte Alban. The typical old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, therefore the tourists should absolutely visit the Cathedral, the Iglesia de Santo Domingo and the beautiful Culture Museum of Oaxaca.

In the area where today is settled Oaxaca in the past there have been settlements of Zapotec and Mixtec linked to important centers of Monte Alban and Mitla. Today the city of Oaxaca is a very active cultural center, that boasts festivals and events throughout all the year.

If you are walking through the streets of the downtown will not be hard to find stalls which sell the famous chapulines (grasshopper) which are one of the culinary specialties of this region.
