The goal of this trip to Mexico is not only to admire some of the most important rock paintings in the world, but to live the emotion of getting in touch with an ancient population that unfortunately goes missing and get to know their culture. The Californios are the descendants of the ancient Spaniards who arrived in Baja California accompanying the Jesuits, back in 1600. They remained isolated from the rest of the world, living in the canyons and central mountains of the peninsula and, to this day, they live on an economy of subsistence, building shoes, ropes, saddles and everything they need to live.

They are kind and tenacious people with a great sense of community, because it is the mutual help that has enabled them to survive over the centuries. The traveler is amazed not only by the beauty of prehistoric art but also by the immersion in a dimension which is simple, quiet, timeless. For this reason, those who have had the opportunity to make this experience, describe it as a journey that will always remain part of them.

We also wanted to integrate this trip with two days dedicated to the meeting other wonderful, ancient creatures: the gray whales. Each year these animals travel 20,000 km to arrive from the Arctic polar circle in the warm and protected waters of the Mexican Pacific, where they give birth to their young and wait for them to be big and strong enough to face the return journey.

Here they feel safe, so they let themselves be approached, and they also approach boats spontaneously for what has now become a moving ritual of greeting and presentation of the little ones.

If we have time in the afternoon, we can go hiking in the nearby hills and visit some minor sites of rock paintings: a little taste of what awaits us.
