Bequia
Bequia is an island located in the Caribbean Sea, it is the most populous island belonging to the Grenadines archipelago. It is part of the country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
During the 2nd century BC the island was inhabited by the Arawak, a group of indigenous people, nowadays it counts about 6000 inhabitants, the majority live in the city centre, Port Elizabeth. On the island most of the resident have afro-caribbean descendent, while other are french and scottish colonists.
During the 19th century some american hunters of whales taught the strategy of this type of fishing to the native. In fact, Bequia is one of the few places in the world where limited whaling is still allowed.
In the close island of Petit Nevis, is set a whaling base, where the butchery took place.
The main business on the island is the tourism, thanks to its beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea. The island is rich in touristic luxurious resorts.
