Luxembourg - Useful information for your trip
Luxembourg is a country in Europe with Luxembourg City as a capital.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the only Grand Duchy in the world, is located in Europe and is a member of the European Union. It's a landlocked country and its capital is Luxembourg City. The north of the country is characterized by hills and low mountains, alternating with numerous valleys. It includes the massif of the Ardennes and its highest point is located on Mount Huldange with its 559 meters. The south of the country is hilly. The largest river is the Moselle, to remember are also Sauer, the Alzette and Our.
The climate is temperate, with mild winters, favoring the development of deciduous forests. Luxembourg is rich in wooded areas. The main plants present are beech, hornbeam and oak. There are many species of birds in the area, including the hazel woods and the red kite. Widespread are also badgers and weasels.
The economy of Luxembourg is based mainly on the banking sector, on industry and steel production. The agricultural sector is small but very productive. The most relevant products are meat and milk, as well as vineyards in the Moselle Valley that produce dry white wine. The country specializes in cross-border investment funds.
Despite its small size, Luxembourg is full of tourist attractions, from the vineyards of the Moselle to the feudal houses of the Middle Ages. Interesting to visit are also the casemates of the Bock and Petrusse, a vast network of underground tunnels and anti-bombing shelters that were used during the two world wars. Also worth seeing is the so-called "Little Switzerland" or the Mullerthal, characterized by hills of sandstone rocks with the most incredible shapes, covered by green forests.
Finally Luxembourg is home to 109 medieval castles, among which the best known is that of Vianden.
