Estonia - Useful information for your trip

Estonia is a country located in Northern Europe with Tallinn as a capital city, lapped by the Baltic Sea to the north and west. Its territory is mostly flat,  40% of which is covered by forests. Its coasts are jagged and in front of them there are about 1520 islands. The highest point in Estonia is mount Suur Munamägi (318 m).

Estonia is also full of lakes, the largest of which is Peipsi lake on the border with Russia. Among the most important rivers are Pärnu (144 km), Kasari (112 km), Emajõgi (101 km) and Narva (77 km). The climate is sub-continental, with cold, wet winters and summers alternating intense heat to precipitation.

As for the environment, forests cover about half of the Estonian territory. There are many protected areas, including Lahemaa national park. There are also a Biosphere Reserve, a marine reserve, five natural reserves and 57 natural areas. As for the economy, Estonia is among the countries with the highest investment freedom. The prevailing economic activities cover the service sector, in particular, advisory services and tourism.

Also important is the industrial activity, characterized mainly by small and medium-sized enterprises. The network of road transport is well developed, together with maritime navigation. The country is crossed south by Via Baltica. During a vacation or a trip to Estonia not to be missed is certainly the picturesque capital Tallinn, with its rich variety of cultural attractions, including the Old Town and magnificent Kadriorg Palace. For those who prefer natural landscapes, certainly Lahemaa National Park is worth a visit.
