It was one of the favorite holiday resorts for wealthy families coming from Milan and Como, since the start of the century. This is why it displays several villas with large gardens, such as Villa Carlotta, which we'll visit.
Villa Carlotta is of rare beauty: here, natural wonders and architectural masterpieces are harmoniously mixed in 70.000 sqm.
The marquis Giorgio Clerici commissioned the construction of a wonderful house, set in a natural cave, among lake and mountains, at the end of the XVII century. This imposing and refined villa is surrounded by an Italian-style garden, in front of a breathtaking landscape offering views of Grigne Mountain range and Bellagio. Villa Carlotta's park is famous for its amazing spring blooming, characterized by the colors of 150 different rhododendrons and azaleas. Anyway, a visit here is suitable in every season. It is possible to admire old examples of camellias, cedars, century-old sequoias, planes and exotic essences set in different parts of the garden according to the design of the landscapers of that time.
At the end of the visit, at 11.30 am, the tour continues by boat to Bellagio. Here we'll have time available to visit the village and have lunch.
Bellagio is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations, not only of Lake Como, but also of the whole world. Bellagio, known as "the Pearl of Lake Como", offers high-quality restaurants and hotels, elegant and evocative spots from which to admire enchanting views.
Meeting at 3 pm and departure for Lecco, where we'll enjoy free time to discover the town. Lecco is famous for being the city where Alessandro Manzoni lived when he was young. It was in his house, the eighteenth-century villa Caleotto (now Manzonian Museum), that Alessandro Manzoni found the inspiration for the plot of his novel The Betrothed. The surrounding lake and mountains make Lecco a unique location, old and modern at the same time. The Manzonian epoch is mostly revived in Pescarenico, a district meticulously described by the writer. Anyway, Lecco is more than only "That branch of the lake of Como which extends southwards...". In fact, Lecco is also rich in history and culture, which can be discovered visiting the city museums.
At the end of the visit, at 5 pm, departure for Colico/Gravedona.
