Where is Goa
The small State of Goa is on the western coast of India and it borders with Maharashtra on the norther side and Karnataka on the southern side, while in the west it faces the Arabic Sea. Its capital is Panaji.
Beaches you must see
The most beautiful beaches are those of Morjim and Arambol, Candolim, Colva and Baga: coasts with white sand like talcum powder, surrounded by palm trees and with uncontaminated stretches of coastline, in short, a real paradise!
In the towns and cities you will find traces of the past Portuguese domination, but also of a certain hippie influence: between the sixties and seventies Goa was an important center for this movement, so that here a type of music was also invented, the Goa Trance.
The name Goa seems to be a Portuguese word, even if its true origin remains obscure. For some it derives from the term konkani goy, which means "bunch of tall grass", but some ancient Indian epic poems also call this area "nation of herds of cows" ("Goparashtra"). The state of Goa is also mentioned by the Greek geographer Tolomeus in the third century, but with the name of Aparantha.
