Welcome to Hue, the imperial city and one of the most interesting destinations during a trip to Vietnam! Hue was the ancient capital of Vietnam during the reign of the 13 emperors of the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 to 1945 and still retains traces of this important past.
Vietnam's imperial city
This city, where the Song Huong River flows, the "river of perfumes", houses the imperial tombs and the fortified citadel of the Nguyen dynasty: two attractions not to be missed during your stay.
To visit Hue, remember to stay there for at least two days. The city can be easily visited by renting a bicycle or a scooter, admiring the landscape flowing next to you.
Hue's main attractions
The Imperial Citadel: A city in the heart of the city, here is the Citadel of Hue. Unesco heritage since 1993, it was designed by French architects and built in 1805, to act as a fortress and an imperial residence. Inside the citadel, there is also the Forbidden City of Hue or Purple City, where the emperor resided. Access was forbidden to ordinary people and transgressors were punished with death. Today the Forbidden City can be visited: you can admire bonsai gardens, palaces, temples and pagodas divided into various sectors to explore on foot.
Thien Mu Pagoda: This pagoda, whose name means "heavenly lady", rises along the river of perfumes. Octagonal in shape, it was built in 1601 and offers the opportunity to meet Buddhist monks and breathe local spirituality.
Imperial Tombs: The tombs of the emperors of Nguyen dynasty are another landmark. There are a total of seven, distributed along the River of perfumes. The most striking are the Tomb of Minh Mang, the Tomb of Tu Duc and the Tomb of Khai Dinh.
