The magnificent Jogjakarta (or Yogyakarta) is the heart of javanese culture.
Start your tour with the visit of the Keraton (or Sultan's palace), located in the center of the city. The palace is surrounded by white houses and a engrossed in a calm atmosphere.
Then, you'll visit the water palace of Taman Sari, rich in subterranean passages, hidden chambers and curious ponds.
At Kota Gede you can admire the big and small artisanal shops facing on the streets, which create exquisite jewels and homeware.
Finally, after a trip on a becak (a pedicab similar to a tuktuk), transfer to Prambanan and visit of the temple of ancient Javanese kings.
In the morning, transfer to Magelang to visit Borobudur, a very famous Buddhist temple. It's one of the most impressive and greatest buildings of the island, and it's located in a wonderful mountainous landscape.
Its terraces are filled with several reliefs that narrate stories about the Buddha.
The next visit will be at Pawon, a small building dedicated to the Buddhist god of luck, Kuvera.
Finally, visit at the temple of Mendut, built in 800 a. D., rich in decorations. Its most notable feature are the giant Buddha statues inserted in circular buildings, perfectly preserved.
Spare time in the afternoon.
In the morning, transfer to the Jogjakarta airport to Denpasar. Upon your arrival at Denpasar, meet up with a local guide and a Balinese lady dressed up in traditional attire that will welcome you with a flower garland.
Transfer to the Ubud hotel.
After breakfast, you can explore the whereabouts of Ubud, beautiful city popular among tourists all over the world.
You'll travel through Tegalalang by car, where you'll see its rice fields. Its green rice terraces will surprise you with their vibrant colors. You'll admire the typical irrigation buildings called Subak.
You'll then visit the Tampak Siring area and visit the temples of Tirta Empul and Gunug Kawi. Tirta Empul is a pilgrimage site, where balinese pilgrims come to spiritually and phisically purify themselves in its sacred waters. Gunug Kawi includes several 11th century tombs, probably built by ancient kings and queens. The area is filled with statues and traditional buildings.
Finally, you'll explore Ubud's Monkey Forest, walking on the forest's inner path.
Beware of the little monkeys, they are adorable but very smart and often steal objects from humans!
Departure to the Marga area through the rural route to visit the whereabouts.
You'll be able to learn more about the culture and traditions of balinese culture at one of the island's compounds; moreover, you'll find out how Bali's irrigation system works, and which are the native tropical plants of the island.
You'll have the chance to be in touch with the locals, and you'll visit a rice field.
Finally, the tour continues with the visit of Jatiluwih and its wonderful rice terraces.
