The trip gives ample opportunity to observe their life closely and to interact with the local people in a simple way. Tourists can see and understand their agriculture lifestyle, their livelihood, hospitality, traditions, cultures and religions in the homes and in the villages. You will eat fresh produce directly from their farms and sleep in their homes. Meals are prepared hygienically in the host families' kitchens and accommodations are simple but comfortable for some nights.
The village tour takes you around the community to visit other attractions such as temples, shrines, monasteries, schools etc. allowing you to see and understand more about local life. Most of the village homestays are located in scenic spots with other natural attractions such as the Himalayan mountains, rivers, jungles, terraced farms etc.
The trip duration ranges from two to three weeks depending on how many villages you want to visit and how long you want to stay. (Best Time: Sept – mid June).
Upon arrival at New Delhi international airport meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. After breakfast you can visit Old Delhi, Rajghat (Gandhi Memorial), Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chadni Chowk and Government buildings, India Gate, Rajpath, Indian Parliament House etc. Overnight at the hotel.
Very early in the morning departure with picnic breakfast to New Delhi or Anand Vihar Railway Station. You will take the early morning train to Kathgodam for a 6-hour journey. Upon arrival at Kathgodam, you will be met by our staff (local guide & driver) who will take you to Almora via Bhimtal, Bhawali, Kainchidham Temple and Almora market. On arrival at the hotel or guest house check in. The rest of the time is for relax. Late afternoon visit Almora local market.
After breakfast, you will be transferred by jeep to Someshwar Valley (1 H 30). From there you will start the village walking tour to Kausani around 5-6 H, with an ascending but easy trek, through some typical Kumaoni villages, temples and schools. On arrival at Kausani, check in at the guest house or local house. Then enjoy the scenic beauty of Katyur valley.
You have five days to explore the Kumaon Valleys, with a number of exciting options. If you wish, you can venture out with your guide into the tranquil countryside surrounding Chaurason Top, Unkhuli, marvelling at the majestic scenery which is almost Alpine, yet on a far grander scale. Broad panoramas encompass tidy terraced fields bordered by lush green forests beneath the omnipresent Himalayas. Alternatively, you may prefer simply to relax in the village and immerse yourself in the lives of the villagers.
From here you take the scenic ‘high route’ over the ridge, following your guide up to the summer grazing pastures of Bedani Bhugial. At an altitude of 3,700 metres, your efforts are rewarded here with truly spectacular views over the forested foothills and great peaks of the Indian Himalayas.
Closer still to the Himalayan peaks, the villages of Gwaldam and Unkhuli offer the opportunity for more challenging walks that reward with far-reaching views. During your time in the Kumaon Valley you can explore the area with your guide, or spend a day relaxing in the village.
After an early breakfast drive to Nainital via the queen of Kumaon hill, “Ranikhet”. This tiny city is the headquarter of the Kumaon Regiment. On arrival at Nainital check in to the hotel, rest of the time visit the Mall Road and Naini Lake. Overnight at the hotel
