    Free day with the opportunity to take an optional excursion to Tikal. Tikal is considered as the most beautiful Mayan site; the incredible abundance of pyramids and inscribed stones proves that this city was the most important of the Mayan world in the 8th century. The ruins, most of which still hidden in vegetation, are located on an area of 576 sqkm and those already brought back to light can be seen while strolling near pyramids which are up to 70 mt high, built 200 years before our age.

    From the top of the 4th temple, the view on Peten jungle is impressive.

    Breakfast in the hotel.

    Departure to Chichicastenango where you can visit Santo Tomas church and the famous indigenous market, the most famous in Guatemala, where Mayan and Spanish traditions combine. On Thursdays and Sundays (market days) the small town center becomes a real handicraft bazaar where you can admire and buy several kinds of fabrics, statues made of carved wood and pottery. The representatives of several nearby villages assigned to the cult of different saints gather together in Santo Tomas church, located in the main square. It is possible to see natives offering incense and praying to their gods and saints in an evocative mix of pre-Hispanic and Christian rites.

    Visit the city, a colonial monument of the Americas, which was the capital city of Guatemala till 1773. Its colonial treasures include the Palace of the General Captains, the Municipality Palace, the Arms Square and the Government Palace.

    The ruins of different churches and convents such as Merced and the Capuchin church are also interesting.

    Departure to Atitlan Lake, one of the most beautiful in the world, dominated by three volcanoes and inhabited by several communities belonging to different ethnic groups on its shores.

    In the morning travel to Tuxtla Gutierrez.

    Arrive at the pier in Chiapa de Corzo for boarding on a boat to descend the gorge that has formed inside Canyon del Sumidero, dammed upstream. The altitude and the local natural landscape will contribute to the incredible experience.

    In the morning visit the local market, one of the most typical of the area, where hundreds of native daily gather to sell their products.

    Continue to Santo Domingo church in Baroque style, established in 1546 and the set off to visit the nearby indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan. The first one is very peculiar, since in the church you will be able to notice the coexistence of pagan and Christian rites, while the Zinacantec natives are very much oriented to Catholicism.

    Departure to Palenque crossing the beautiful and green sierra with a short stop at Agua Azul waterfalls for a picnic lunch or in a rustic restaurant.

    In the morning visit Palenque archaeological area. On the borders of the tropical jungle lies one of the most beautiful ritual Mayan centers functioning from the third to 7th century. The temple of the inscription is famous for hosting the tomb of the great lord "Pakal" adorned with a precious jade mask found inside, a real masterpiece of Mayan art.

    In the end continue on to Campeche, the capital city of the State of the Mexican Confederation bearing the same name.

    Short tour of the ancient city enclosed and fortified with towers and walls erected to defend the colony from pirates' attacks. In the ancient walls the city still holds a typical colonial flavour with beautiful mansions and austere churches.

    Departure to Merida with a stop in Uxmal archaeological site where you'll visit the ruins of the Mayan city flourished between the third and the tenth century. The Pyramid of the Magician and the Government Palace.

    In the afternoon and arrival in Merida, known as "the white city", where the colonial mansions in French, Italian and Arabian style are evidence of the wealth of the past thanks to the trade of agave fibers. Stop in the main square, where you can admire the main monuments of the city: the Cathedral, the Governor's Palace, the City Hall and Montejo's House.
